How it all began
Hey!
I’m Whitney,
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved creating stories; even as a little girl, I loved writing, and fairytales, and Disney princesses. At some point along the way I was given my first camera. and being the hyper-competitive little spitfire that I was (am), I entered a photo contest… I did not win.
Though I really enjoyed photography, I never would have imagined being a photographer was something I would do, professionally. If you asked me back then what I would be doing when I grew up, I probably would have told you that I had a bright career in “modeling”, but not photography. Mostly because I enjoyed bossing the family photographer around until he took the pictures of me that I knew were necessary; like that curtesy I had just perfected.
Being a kid who loved amazing stories, I did what all kids do when they grow up and I chased my passions. Just kidding, I did the '“practical” thing and went into physical therapy. Although, the passion for storytelling hadn’t gone away completely because in college, a decade after twisting the family photographer’s arm into validating my modeling career, I picked up a camera again. I started convincing everyone I could to let me take their pictures and something was reignited in me. I discovered the marriage of the storytelling that I loved with an art form that was elegant, beautiful, and had meaning.
After 8+ years in the physical therapy field and juggling my passion for photography on the side, I took the leap and quit my day job to pursue photography full time and be home with my own sweet littles. I have 3 beautiful children and things have come full-circle as my two, strong-willed daughters, now love to make me photograph their own curtseys.
The days are long but the years are short and I want to remember how chubby their little arms were and the crease it made where it met their wrist; or the way they snuggled into my chest and I knew they felt so safe and protected without being able to speak a word. I want to remember dancing with my toddler, or the way their faces light up at the prospect of finding some imaginary hidden treasure. I want to remember the way they look at up to their daddy with admiration or run to my arms for comfort.
It’s all passing me by so quickly and the best way that I can imagine to not forget, is to freeze these fleeting moments in time.
They say a photo is worth a thousand words and it’s cliché for a reason: it’s true! I believe a great photo tells a story above all else. A great photo captures the things that you may be too close to in the moment to even realize are happening.
It’s my hope that the images I create with you remind you of the things that matter: the loving marriage you have in the middle of a hard storm, the home you built with your own hands, or the amazing body you wrestled to feel comfortable in while it grew a freaking human!
Whatever your story is, my goal is to help you remember it the way you deserve: with awe and passion, and warmth.
